Results and video highlights of Portuguese Hard Enduro Series 2020 round two, Extreme Gondomar where Mario Roman took the win.
Mario Roman returned to action in the Portuguese Hard Enduro Series (PHES) with victory at round two of the 2020 season, the Borilli PHES CFL - Extreme Gondomar.
Cloudy conditions where perfect for 150-plus competitors facing an 18km course which also saw riders from the Spanish Iberian Cup hop over the border into Portugal. Starting in the morning with a prologue race the main event running over three hours of racing.
Mario Roman headed home PHES top dogs, Luis Silva and Ni Esteves who were the only three riders to complete three laps of the Gondomar course.
Diogo Vieira, currently competing in the SuperEnduro World Championship, raced up front and was on for a podium before he was forced to abandon during the second lap.
“It was a very good race for me with three and a half hours of tough racing.” Explains Mario at the finish. “The track was challenging with a lot of rivers up and down which made it a very physical race with not a lot of chance for rest. Some of the streams were very slippery but I rode smart and smooth and Sherco Portugal made a great job preparing my bike for this race.”
Roman is no stranger to the early season PHES races and uses the tough races as training and preparation for the bigger Extreme events in his season: “The plan is to race two more of the rounds before Lagares, round one of WESS and ahead of the difficult races this season like Erzberg and Romaniacs.” Says Mario. “This championship is very good training for me but also I have a lot of fun racing here in this series.”
