Charismatic Spanish rider Alberto Martínez tragically dies on stage three of the 2020 Hispania Rally – the stage was cancelled as a mark of respect.
Organisers of the Hispania Rally have sadly announced the passing of Alberto Martinez, today, on stage three of the 2020 rally running this week in Southern Spain.
The incident is said to have occurred soon after the start of the stage on a public highway and as such was a road traffic accident. This comes as very sad news about a rider, known as Albertito Carpediem, who was widely popular in the rally and off road scene not just in Spain but beyond.
Today’s stage of the Hispania Rally has been cancelled as a result.

The rider Alberto Martínez (9/26/1977) has lost his life today due to a traffic accident at kilometre 2.93 of the stage. Specifically, the outcome has taken place on the A-92 highway. It was a liaison section (non-competitive) before the arrival of the competitive specials.
On the occasion of the fatal loss, stage three has been cancelled.
Alberto Martínez, better known as “Albertito Carpediem” by all friends and motor enthusiasts, was a charismatic Basque rider and loved by the rest of the rally scene. His loss leaves a great void.
