Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing have extended their contract with Andrew Short for one more year. The deal will see the American rider remain with the team until at least the end of 2020.
After a successful career in motocross and supercross Short made the switch to rally in 2017, having his first go at the Dakar Rally in 2018 and placing 17th despite breaking his ankle in the closing stages. Continuing with his progression in rally Andrew secured a number of top-10 results at the 2018 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship and finished fifth in his second Dakar in 2019.
The 36-year-old rider has delivered some strong results during this year’s world championship including fifth in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and a second place in the Silk Way Rally.
“I’m excited to be with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team for another year. It takes time to get to the point where you understand rally and can ride competitively, but I believe I am at that stage now,” admits Andrew Short.
For 2020, Husqvarna and Short expect to continue their strong run of form and produce top results in both the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship and the Dakar Rally.
“There is always more to learn,” continues Short. “But with the Dakar moving to Saudi Arabia it will be a new experience for everyone and I’m hoping that will be in my favour and help me continue to progress. I’m really happy to be part of the team and I think it gives me the very best opportunity. To be successful in rally, you need the very best crew behind you, and I have exactly that right now. I’m looking forward to what 2020 brings.”
