FIM Cross-Country Bajas World Cup arrives in Castelo Branco Portugal for round two, Baja TT do Pinhal.
Castelo Branco in central Portugal will stage round two of the 2019 FIM Cross-Country Bajas World Cup this weekend at the third edition of the Baja TT do Pinhal.
Friday, March 22, administrative and technical checks will take place in the small town of Sertã. Riders then tackle a super special stage of 9.7km. On Saturday, riders compete on the opening 234.06km stage with a special of 170km rounding off the competition on Sunday.
30 riders are registered on motorcycles, including 12 in the FIM category. Second overall in Dubai, Benjamin Melot (KTM) has come looking for success in the absence of the opening round winner Aaron Mare (Husqvarna), who had problems obtaining his visa on time.
“I had not really planned to make the FIM World Cup of Cross Country Bajas,” explains Melot. “But why not? I’ll see how the race unfolds to make my decision.”
Resident in Dubai, Melot, is accompanied from UAE riders Mohammed Al-Balooshi – who has abandoned Kawasaki to resume with KTM – his brother Sultan and Abdullah Al-Shati (KTM), who scored nine points in Dubai.
Four riders are entered in the Junior category: the Chilean Tomas de Gavardo (KTM), is chasing the Junior title, and will also benefit from the absence of the young Aaron Mare. Ivan Donoso (Honda), the Indian Aishwarya Pissay (TVS) and Portuguese Rita Veira (Yamaha) round off the quartet. Sara Garcia (Yamaha) completes the trio in the Women’s category.
