Spanish Enduro Championship Rd 5

Befurious Befurious
Gas Gas' Ivan Cervantes and KTM's Cristobal Guerrero continue their intense rivalry at the Spanish Enduro Championship as they share victory at round five in Lalin Pontevedra, northern Spain...

On day one it was Guerrero that claimed the opening win of the weekend, as he topped the Enduro 2 and overall classification standings with Cervantes close behind in second. Fortunes were reversed on day two with the Gas Gas rider getting the better of Guerrero to secure victory. With both riders tying on points in Pontevedra, it's Guerrero that remains at the top of the championship with a six-point lead over Cervantes.

Husqvarna's Joan Barreda placed third both days in Enduro 2.

In Enduro 1 a new winner emerged with KTM's Victor Guerrero recording victory both days. Making a determined effort to consolidate his championship lead in Enduro 1 after breaking his foot just one week earlier at the Enduro World Championship GP of Portugal, Husqvarna's Lorenzo Santolino finished second on day one and fourth on day two.

Ending day one in third, Gas Gas' Goncalo Reis improved to finish as runner up to Guerrero on day two, while KTM's Mario Roman completed the top three on day two.

Husaberg's Joakim Ljunggren extended his lead in the Enduro 3 championship with victory both day, while the Spanish duel between Oriol Mena (Husaberg) and Aaron Bernardez (TM) ended in a draw with both riders exchanging second and third place both days.

Ivan Cervantes (Gas Gas), Enduro 2: "Overall things went good, but we lacked that extra confidence given to us being able to win the first special of the day. After this first positive point, the race has become a head to head with Guerrero until the last step for the Extreme. At that point I decided to risk and directly attack a complicated area of stones and he chose not to use the easy option and do the same as me. The bet has left us perfect because he lost 23 seconds, which ended up giving us the absolute win."

The Spanish Enduro Championship now takes a break for the summer months before concluding with the sixth and final round at Valls de Torruella, Barcelona on October 13/14.
