The venue was Farleigh Castle GB, for the British round of the 1983 500cc Motocross World Championship. Lawrence Spence (Kawasaki) had been dicing with Graham Noyce during the closing stages of the race but his gearbox locked within sight of the finish. He didn’t quit. Instead Spence dragged his stricken machine over the finish line at the end of 45 minutes of racing.

Despite only making his debut ride on the Husaberg TE250 at the opening rounds of the British Sprint Enduro Championship in Chavenage Farm, Jamie McCanney left it as the series leader. Quickly adapting to the extra power of the bigger bike, the Manxman looked smooth, calm, confident and extremely fast. Ending round one third in the Elite class, he picked up his pace to finish second at round two and claim the overall win for the weekend.
